| Product Background: | Muscovado sugar is being produced by small sugarcane growers as a means for alternative income, particularly during off-milling season by the sugar mill local in the area, the Cotabato Sugar Central Corporation (COSUCECO). | ||||||||||
| Product Description: | Muscovado is molded non-centrifugal sugar made from boiled sugar cane juice. It is a very small crystal sugar with a heavy concentration of molasses. | ||||||||||

| Product History: | Muscovado production started from the Ilocano folks who settled in the area. As a part of their Ilocano traditions, they produced muscovado sugar and basi wine using century old cane crusher being run by a cow or carabao moving around. The cooperative was organized among sugarcane growers in the area , and engaged in muscovado production for better income. | ||||||||||

| Geography: | Matalam is a palm shape municipality. It is centrally located right at the heart of the province of Cotabato. It is bounded on the east by the municipality of Kidapawan; on the west by Kabacan; on the south by M’lang and on the North bu Municipalities of President Roxas and Carmen. It lies along the Cotabato-Davao National Highway occupying the large portion of the famous Arakan Valley. Matalan has a total land Area of 47,600 hectare with 34 barangays. | ||||||||||
| History: | The municipality of Matalam before its creation into a regular municipality the (poblacion) which is now the set of government is just a mere sitio of Kilada called “Crossing M’lang” with in the jurisdiction of the municipality of Kabacan. Because of its strategic location coupled with the strong desire of the people through the strong leadership of both civic and religious leaders, petition the provincial and national government for its creation into a regular municipality now called Matalam, as the 32nd municipality of then empire province of Cotabato | ||||||||||
